What is ICML55 with Jim Fitch
Lubrication is one of the fundamental things that needs to be taken care of if you want your machines healthy. There’s a lot to learn from the leading organizations in order to have good lubrication programs. The organizations looking to get started in the field can take information from different platforms and online media. One of such resources is International Council of Machine Lubrication. ICML55 is a standard that originated from the concept of asset management standard ISO55000. There was a need to have a standard lubrication guide that will allow you to have a sustainable lubrication program with best practices incorporated in it.
In this episode, we covered:
- What is ICML55?
- Why is lubrication an important factor in machine maintenance?
- What are the basics that you need to have sustainable lubrication?
- And much more!
ICML55 covers concepts such as maintenance, reliability, lubrication, and condition monitoring in detail and provides tactical solution for your lubrication problems. There were a lot of leaders involved who came from different organizations and had been doing field work for a very long time. They sat together and devised a comprehensive manual with the help of world class subject matter experts to manage you assets in a better way. This guide is in two parts; the first part gives you all the basics that you need to have sustainable lubrication while the second part addresses the best practices to be more compliant with implementing good solutions for continuous progress.
The second part is still in progress, the ICML55 has twelve areas that are the pillars of this standard. These areas revolve around the organizational goals and objectives as well as the aligning of these goals with your procedures and standards. These twelve areas include; skills for the job, machine itself, lubricant selection and handling, lubrication and related tasks, tools and support, inspection, oil analysis, troubleshooting and RCA, waste management, energy conservation and environmental safety, oil reclamation and decontamination, and Leadership and metrics.
The first part of the manual has 55 pages and every major area can be broken into smaller areas to cover every detail of the asset management programs. These details will provide you with a framework to facilitate you with achieving different goals that your organization has. There are a lot of different ways to carry out things but having a standard and a baseline to make a list of solutions to make smart choices goes a long way. It is the best way to achieving all the requirements of ISO55000 and then use ICML55 to sustain the progress that you have made.
People of various skill sets are helping to develop a part 2 of the document and it would cover more details of the process. This documents will help companies achieve world class benefits in the field of lubrication and allow them to get where they want to go in the field. It will provide everyone a roadmap to make the best of what they got and what they want to achieve. They will be able to make smart decisions with greater degree of understanding. It is a nurturing standard to help you nurture your procedures. plants, and your workforce.
